Silver continues to be the favorite color for new cars in North America. 2009 Survey results show that 57% of new cars sold this year have been either silver, black or white.

This year is the ninth consecutive year that silver has topped the list of favored colors for new cars. Todays silver paint is much more advanced than that which was used when it first became the most popular new car color. Paint and paint spraying technology is constantly improving enabling car makers to offer an ever increasing range of colors.

Silver, black and white are clearly car buyers favorites but Ford have had some success with more vibrant colors including Molten Orange and Grabber Blue. There is a new, compact Ford Fiesta due to arrive in the US in 2010 and this will be made avaiable in a range of much brighter, vibrant colors including bright green and red as well as the popular silver, black and white.

Around 37% of the small car in Europe, where the market for this size is very strong, tend to be more varied in their colors using reds, green, brown and blue.

Car makers have also turned their attention to making their car interiors more attractive by using varied accent colors. New paints are being introduced that include glass which makes the paint glisten and shine, adding to its attraction.

There are those who believe that color can have a distinct psychological effect. For example, red has been found to stimulate the body and mind to increase circulation whereas blue has been believed to provide a soothing effect on illnesses and pain. But many psychologists view color therapy with some skepticism.

Fifteem years ago only 1% of new cars were silver in color with the most popular color choice at that time being green. Color fashions come and go making it impossible to accurately predict the next hot trend.
